Government plans to halve the price for the issuance of passport with biometric data. The price for the issuance of biometric passports will be reduced from 75 euros to 35 euros. Deputy Minister of Information Technologies, Dorin Moldpres Recean told that the new tariff will come into force upon adoption of a decision by the Government, most likely by November 1, 2010.
From early next year, the Moldovan citizens will only be issued passports containing biometric data. Current passports will remain valid until their expiry. The use of biometric passports is a condition of the European Union to liberalize visa regime with Moldova. europalibera.org
