A subcrustal earthquakes (intermediate) with a magnitude of about 4 occurred Sunday morning, December 5, in the Vrancea region.

The earthquake occurred at 02h 49min Universal Time and the epicenter was located in Vrancea Mountains, near Nereju. According to data published by the National Research Institute for Earth Physics and Seismology Center Euro-Mediterranean earthquake occurred at a depth of 146 km, and its magnitude was 3.9 degrees. The intensity of seismic motion in the epicentral area was grade II on the Mercalli scale.
Sunday's quake followed a seismic event occurred in the evening of December 2, at 20h 59min, also in Vrancea Mountains, near the village Nereju, and which had a magnitude of 3.8 degrees. It also was the third quake with a magnitude Vrancea event greater than 3.5 degrees produced in the last 10 days. Vrancea seismic activity is characterized by alternating between active periods, with larger numbers of earthquakes and the calmer periods, that number is lower seismic movements. Every year in the Vrancea region, the most active seismic region of Romania, there are on average 10 to 13 earthquakes of magnitudes equal to or greater than 4.0, one or two events reach approximately 5.0 magnitudes. Because these earthquakes occur, usually at great depths, they are felt weak at the surface.
