From February 7, 2011, biometric passports for children will be cheaper. Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announces that this document will cost 21% less for children aged 7-12 years and children aged up to 7 years - 44%.

Thus, a biometric passport for children from 7-12 years will cost 670 lei, and for children up to 7 years - 480 lei. The cost for the preparation and issuing biometric passports for adults is 850 lei for 30 days.
Moldovan citizens are documented only with biometric passports as of 1 January 2011. Issuance of passports with biometric data is made on the recommendation of the European Union in view of liberalization of visa regime between Moldova and EU countries.
