Drug prices in Moldova are higher than in neighboring countries PDF Print E-mail

Filat today chaired a working meeting on the situation of the pharmaceutical market. At the hearing, the Health Minister Vladimir Hotineanu made a presentation on the pharmaceutical market of Moldova.

The information presented is a growing volume of imports of drugs in Moldova. Thus, in 2005 were imported medicines worth U.S. $ 7 million in 2009 this figure amounted to U.S. $ 160 million. National production of drugs is conducted by 22 pharmaceutical companies account for 10 percent of the domestic pharmaceutical market.
Vladimir Hotineanu also said that Moldova imports drugs from 50 countries. Currently operating 72 licensed importers of medicines.
Health Minister pointed out that the checks carried out, were found numerous violations of the storage of medicines. Have also been detected fraudulent schemes in the result that the price of drugs in Moldova is several times higher than in neighboring states.
Currently we are working on drafting a regulation on the formation and control of drug prices. The Regulation will be provided that at the beginning of each year, manufacturers will make public in domestic prices for drugs, but not foreign. This will exclude situations where the drug price will be amended during the year.
At the hearing, noted that Moldova and Ukraine are the only countries in the region who do not have a registration procedure for drug prices, according to a press release from the Executive.
The premier said that implementing a new pricing mechanism to ensure people's access to medicines to pharmaceutical quality, secure, affordable.

Most affected is the city of Toledo . 30 people are in hospital, four of them, two adults and two children in critical condition.
