Today, May 24, Benedict XVI received in audience the President and interim President of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, who subsequently met Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State accompanied by Msgr. Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States. "During the cordial talks - reports a statement from the Vatican press office - we focused on the situation of the country, hoping that any difficulties will be resolved through dialogue. He acknowledged the positive contribution of the Catholic Church's mission in Moldova to benefit the people and appreciated the peaceful dialogue between the Church and the authorities of the country. Finally, there was an exchange of views on current issues in international relations, including cultural and religious identity of Europe. " |
