Moldova to Lower Wheat and sunflower production PDF Print E-mail

In 2010, Moldova will sow spring wheat throughout the areas of 5.3 thsd ha, a decrease of 300 thsd ha compared to 2009. Winter wheat sowings were reduced by 1340 thsd ha – to the level of 270 thsd ha, declared Valeriy Maslyansky, the main consultant of the department of market policy.

Sunflower sowing areas will occupy nearly 190 thsd ha, down 15 thsd ha compared to the previous year results, however the production volumes will stay at the same stable level, explained V.Maslyansky.

Maize sowing areas will occupy nearly 500 thsd ha, which corresponds to the indices of 2009.

According to V.Maslyansky, to date, agrarians sowed oats throughout nearly 6 thsd ha, and over 60 thsd ha of barley. Peas sowing areas will total 30 thsd ha.
