In the commune Polovragi, Gorj County, found the cave with the same name. A legend says that the other is just out in Transylvania. So far only 11 km have been investigated, but the search continues. They also say that there should be lived Zamolxe , god of the Dacians, and stalactites and stalagmites are formed from tears, after the conquest of Dacia by the Romans. This legend is reinforced by the fact that the plateau above the cave was discovered a Dacian fortress. You can see the painting "Death with the scythe." Furthermore, cavers have found strange limestone forms that nature has created over hundreds of years. "Pachomius's Cave" on Polovragi is the largest and most interesting of the caves valley Oltetului. It is a 9,000 m long cave mapped, with the main gallery in the horizontal part of which is about more than color partly clogged with silt side. Throughout the gallery are three sectors. The first section starts from the former corridor until the resurgence of the pillar and starts with two small lateral color, the most important being at the right called "Corridor of bats. Gallery electrified continue with heights of 2-8 m and width about 10 m. There are frequent crashes, leaks from the ceiling, chimneys, there is open small secondary color, but rather decorated with calcite. Sector head, bordered by Corridor Corridor Smothered mast and begins at about 400 m from the entrance. Over his remains the same width, but height varies between 0.5 and 2 m. The degree of concretion is reduced, corresponding to a surface cap layer. Smothered last sector of the corridor and continue north end of the gallery in a cave until lap clogged. Here the height and width is reduced and stalagmite formations are more numerous towards the extremities of the sector. Polovragi Cave is relatively warm, moist, free from drafts. Biospeologica cave is less interesting, with a poor fauna species and one troglobiont: Trachysphera spelaea. Cave shows great interest in terms of geomorphology and landscape. Polovragi Cave can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10.30 and 17.30, in groups, accompanied by a guide.
