The two researchers, who work in Paris and New York respectively, were found-marker protein, receptor for the pituitary hormone FSH, which is found in all 11 types of cancer tissues studied, and that will help find a drug that cure cancer, informs thought.
Nicolae Ghinea a Ph.D. in cell biology and director of research at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Paris (INSERM). He is the one who led the research and got positive results after using his former colleague asked the Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology, Bucharest, Dr. Aurelian Radu molecular biology, at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
"We talked a lot on Skype. We started with hope that we can prove that the FSH receptor can be used to highlight prostate cancer. Initially, I was disappointed when I found the marker and other cancers. Then, seeing that is in all tumors, we realized that, in fact, I found a universal cancer marker, which was much more than dreaming. universal marker can be used, as we shall see, as a "Trojan horse" to attack decisive cancer cells, revealing Ghinea.
Coordinated by the two Romanian teams have studied the tumors collected from 1336 patients, representing 11 types of cancers: prostate, breast, colon, pancreas, bladder, kidney, lung, liver, stomach, testicles, ovaries. In all cases confirmed this marker is very probable and confirmed later in the other forms of cancer, including the case of lymph.
Nicolae Ghinea says that in terms of medical procedures sight two ways: either blocking the proliferation of blood vessels that feed tumors, either by agents that coagulate the blood vessels that feed tumors.
"We tenfold efforts, because, obviously, we are in a race against time against cancer. If the major drug manufacturers are mobilizing achieving a universal medicine for cancer can be a matter of months. It will take but one least 2-3 years before the drug can be administered to patients, "he said.
